Junior Student Athletes with Academic Goals (Jr. SWAG)

Bronx Westchester AHEC’s Junior Student Athletes with Academic Goals program (Jr. SWAG) is a 8-week long spring internship for high school student athletes. During this program students will:

  • Attend weekly didactic sessions that consist of presentations from health professionals
  • Explore different health careers
  • Network with representatives from various health organizations
  • Engage with hands-on activities

  • Dates: Eight Saturdays from February 7, 2026 – May 16, 2026
  • 10 AM – 12:30 PM
  • Program Location: NYC
  • Paid Stipend upon completion
  • Must attend High school in the Bronx or Westchester County

Summer Health Internship Program (SHIP)

Early Bird Ladders for Leaders Application Deadline: January 9th, 2026

Application end date: January 23rd, 2026

Who should Apply:

  • High school juniors, and seniors

Programming includes:

  • Six-week internship placements in hospitals and community-based health centers and organizations
  • Weekly didactic sessions with health professionals and field trips
  • Exposure to health careers and community health issues

Participation criteria

  • Student must be in high school at the start of the program
  • Student must attend school or live in the Bronx or Westchester
  • Student must be interested in a health career
  • Student must provide two recommendations; one from a teacher or faculty member.

**To provide a safe educational environment for all of our high school, college and post bacc pipeline programs, BW AHEC will follow current CDC and Institutional guidelines for the Summer 2026 sessions; requiring that all students participating in all programs follow social distancing, wear a mask, and proof of vaccination will be required. These rules will be amended as new guidelines or regulations become effective.

BW AHEC SHIP Applicants may be eligible for funding through the NYC “Ladders for Leaders” program.  L4L applications bust be submitted by January 9th.  Please got to the following link to apply:

Touro College of Pharmacy RXplore 

Touro College of Pharmacy Center of Excellence in collaboration with the New York City Area Health Education Centers, will be hosting RxPLORE: AN INSPIRING CAREER: PHARMACY DAY FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS 2026.

This is an opportunity for 9th and 10th-grade high school students to learn about a pharmacy career through panels, speakers’ presentations, and hands-on activities!
